The Chihuahua

The chihuahua, the smallest of all dogs, makes a great lap dog and is certainly a favorite of celebrities. This dog is affectionate, loyal and lively.

Description
This tiny dog is short haired with and apple shaped head, short muzzle, large ears and big eyes.

Size
The Chihuahua weighs in at between 2 and 6 pounds and is only 6 to 9 inches tall.

Color
They come in pretty much any color including solids and parti colors. Chocolate is a favorite as is fawn, silver and steel blue.

Origin
The oldest breed in America, the Chihuahua is native to Mexico but was actually introduced to Europe by the Chinese in the late 19th century.

Temperament
Lively and courageous, this dog makes a good companion. They can be nervous and strong willed and get quite attached to their owners.

Training
Like most small dogs can be hard to housebreak, should be socialized so he does not become aggressive with other dogs.

Living Conditions
Perfect for apartments as he does not need a big yard.
