The Maltese
The Maltese is characterized by it's long flowing snow white hair and is a wonderful companion dog with a great temperment.
A silky white coat that hangs down to the ground gives this dog the appearance of an apparition. This breed has no undercoat and the hair should be straight.
Size
The Maltese should weigh 6 to 9 pounds and stand 8 to 10 inches tall.
Color
White or ivory.
Origin
Developed in Italy, this old breed was very popular with women who were said to carry them around in their sleeves!
Temperament
This breed is very intelligent and loyal to his master. He is gentle but lively and gets along well with other dogs.
Training
This dog is very smart and easily trained as long as he feels that he is getting sufficient reward for his work.
