The Papillon

The Papillon is a sweet companion dog that is lively and a lot more sturdy than he looks. This dog can be affectionate and gentle as well as playful and vivacious.

Description
Long fur with ears that stick out like a butterfly (thus the name Papillon which is French for butterfly). He has a plumed tail that curls over his back and an intelligent expression.

Size
The Papillon weighs 8 - 10 pounds and is 8 - 11 inches tall.

Color
White with patches of another color, usually black but can be any color.

Origin
One of the oldest breeds going back at least 700 years, this dog breed can be seen in Italian Reniassance paintings and frescos.

Temperament
This dog is quite a charmer - friendly and intelligent it loves to play and walk outdoors as much as it loves to sit in your lap.

Training
May be difficult to house break but can be trained to do tricks pretty easily.

Living Conditions
While they don't need a yard to play in, they are protective and might bark at noises so apartment living may not be suitable for this breed.
